Cayman Island Wyndham - Day 1

Travel day! May 15, 2017...I took the Q60 to Jamaica station at 6:35.  Met a fellow travel at the bus stop who thought it was a taxi stand.  He was traveling to Haiti on Jet Blue.  I told him he could take the bus to the air train and he did.  The bus and air train ran with no problems.

I got to Jet Blue around 7:15 and went straight to regular security.  Wasn't too bad but Winnie got TSA- pre checked. She took a LYFT from home.  We met up at the DD after security.  Enjoyed our coffee and muffins.

Our flight #765 was scheduled to leave at 9:30 but we departed early.  We were seated 23C & 23D and Winnie had 23E empty. It wasn't entirely full with a few seats open here and there.

At the gate waiting for boarding

In our seats!

Of course, this would be my aircraft!!

We landed at 12:15 and were able to deplaned rear of the aircraft.  Got on customs/immigration line and then walked the short distance to Budget.

Waiting for my car was definitely island time...slow moving!  Took awhile before it was my turn and got a white Kia Picanto 4 door.  Driver's side was on the right side.  Driving on the left but I admit...it wasn't too bad at all!  The only thing I kept messing up were the turn signals - I would turn on the windshield wipers instead!  And I kept forgetting the gears were on my left instead of my right.

We missed the turnoff to Fosters (5 min from the airport) but came upon Hurley's where we stopped and got water, bread & half n half.

The drive to Wyndham took about 45 min but a pretty straight-away drive with a few traffic circles thrown in.  Once on the East End, very quiet with very few if any cars on the road. Whew!  It was amazing to see the ocean so close to us on the road!

Reached Wyndham and upon checking in, discovered Winnie had received an upgrade and then Toni was able to upgrade me also giving us a one bedroom suite with full kitchen! OMG!  Combining our reservations so we could stay in the same room for our stay.  Unfortunately the room wasn't ready but we were fine with that!

Sat with the concierge who tried to get us to take a "Timeshare" tour which we finally agreed to but then discovered it wasn't feasible with Winnie being married and the spouse was not present.  Oh well...but we got to enjoy our "Welcome Rum Punch" - (no rum for us).  Also was given our individual WiFi access codes.

The center ground floor unit is ours!
We finally got to our room just before 4pm. Again...OMG...accommodations were WONDERFUL. A living / dining room with 2 Murphy beds.  Full kitchen with all amenities.  Master bedroom with king size bed and bathroom though small, obviously it fit our needs.

Our room was 123A.  All rooms are ocean front but being on ground level had our balcony lead right out onto the beach! Incredible!!

Honestly....just steps away from room to beach!

Our view every morning!

No rain though I had seen reports of thunderstorms for the whole week.  There were certainly clouds but there were also glimpses of sun.  It was island humidity for sure and Winnie's hair grew by the minute as mine flattened!

We took a walk along the property to see what was what:

This was heading away from our room

A great dock/pier to wander out and see various tropical fish!

With a full kitchen, we went right across the street to shop at a Foster Express.  Picked up margarine, eggs, & ice cream.

For dinner, we were going to have burgers at the beach bar but discovered it was BBQ buffet night at Tides - their onsite restaurant.  It was delicious and totally filling,  we had 2 plates each of salad, cole slaw, rice & beans, pulled pork and ribs.  Topped it off with key lime pie (me) and cheesecake (Win). They add 15% gratuity to the bill.  There was music by a one man keyboard player.  Very nice atmosphere!

Winnie took the Murphy bed and me the bedroom splitting it for 2 nights each.  I had thought we would be sharing the king-size bed since they didn't offer 2 queens.  But it worked out perfectly!

Awesome beginning!!
