Katie!

A visit to a new show!  Doesn't happen very often but I was able to (finally) get tickets to Katie (Couric).  Being seasoned show-attendees, it's always interesting to see how each show operates.  We certainly know what we like and don't like.

Katie is a taped show - we much prefer "live" shows because we know we will be "in and out".  Tape shows are tricky.  Some are great...taped as if it's a live show - such as The Chew.  Others have a minimal of "stop & go" like when Anderson Cooper taped his show.  Although now it's "live" in certain markets but not in NYC so we get the benefits of a "live" taping.  Katie tapes her show and it is long...a lot of editing must go into her show.  We had The Jersey Shore cast as guests and it was an hour long interview and I know when it is broadcast, it will be whittled down to 30 min.  Her next guest was Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark and I am sorry to say, as much as I like him, it was a snooze!  He spoke of his experience living on food stamps and the only saving grace was when the Coupon Mom came on and made it more interesting.  We also had a "bonus segment" with Alan Alda.  We were in the studio for 2 hours!  And that's not counting the 2.5 hours prior to the taping.  With taped shows, it's the luck of the draw on what the topic will be.

Katie's studio was intimate and very pretty in its decor with changing LED colored walls.  It was also different in that no cameras stood in front of the audience blocking the view of the stage as many of the other shows do.  Katie, herself, was warm, accessible and as bubbly as she is on camera and that was a pleasure to see in person.
