Visiting Daddy

Tuesday, October 21st was our annual visit to my dad with Kathy & Tony.  The original forecast was the day would be clear but that changed to rain.  Tony said we were going rain or shine and I'm glad he did because although it started out wet...by the time we arrived, the sun was peeking through! Thank you, Daddy!

Right away, we noticed the new addition to the place.  A gorgeous curving walk bridge connecting the dining hall to the main office building. Aesthetically pleasing with superb craftsmanship, we were oohing and ahhing. The only thing that still irks us is our father's plaque - now completely wiped clean of its engraving or etching!  Hopefully Kathy will be able to get in touch with the office and we can get this resolved.

With some autumnal colors still left to enjoy, I was very happy with my photos:

After leaving, we headed back to Monticello for lunch.  Kathy and I had noticed (numerous times) a place called Rancho del Gordo.  After Kathy did some research and discovered it wasn't a Mexican restaurant as we assumed but instead offered Columban cuisine - we knew we had to check it out!

We were the only customers although it was 1pm.  The three of us ordered the "Bandeja Tipica" platter.  Loosely translated to "Typical Flagship" dish" - I have had this entree many times at different Latin establishments.  It contains 3 different types of meat: steak, chorizo and chicharron and it's sides are rice and beans, sweet plantain, avocado and a fried egg on top.  It is plentiful and oh-so-good!  My mouth was watering in anticipation but after placing our orders, was extremely disappointed when we were advised he didn't have any chicharron!  The best part!! It is pork belly fried to crackling goodness.  Boo-hoo.  Instead he substituted his roasted chicken which was actually pretty good but certainly no fried pork!  Kathy and I took half our meal home but Tony was able to clean his plate.  We know we will be back! At least to get at that chicharron!!  :)
